Japanese flashcards, from capture to review

A free app for intermediate learners. Make cards fast, review them daily, watch the numbers move.

What it is

Tsumu is a flashcard app built around word cards: the front is a word, the back is its definition, plus an optional image or sentence for context. Reviews are scheduled with FSRS, so you spend your time on the cards you are about to forget instead of the ones you already know.

CaptureScreen-capture a word at your desk, or snap a photo on your phone and process it later. Mine straight from KOReader, Kindle, or Yomitan.
ReviewA daily FSRS session. Again / Hard / Good / Easy, undo, and a summary when you finish.
TrackWords, time, reviews, and a heatmap that makes the streak worth keeping.

See it work

Capturing a card from a screenshot on macOS — Capture — hotkey, select, done.

A review session showing a word card — Review — front, back, grade.

The stats screen with a review heatmap — Stats — words, time, reviews, heatmap.

Cards worth making

A standard card format — word, sentence, meaning, reading, furigana, pitch accent, image, audio — gets filled in automatically from the dictionary, so making a card is a few seconds of work rather than a chore you put off.
